THE UNDERPANTS

by Carl Sternheim,

              adapted by Steve Martin.

The scene is Duesseldorf, 1910. The life of Theo, an officious bureaucrat, is turned upside down when the underpants of his wife Louise inadvertently drop to the ground during a parade for the king. While Theo fears scandal and unemployment, Louise is visited by would-be boarders, who, unbeknownst to her, are there to woo her away from her oblivious husband. Adapting Carl Sterheim's 1910 satire, comedy legend Steve Martin brings his own unique and hilarious take on middle class values, gender roles, sex and, of course, underpants.
